4Hers contribute to keeping our community clean!

The 4H beef and boer club, an agricultural livestock 4H club, adopted a local roadway in an effort to keep our community clean. "Adopt-a-Highway" is a minimum 3 year commitment to routinely pick up trash on a chosen roadway. The club contacted the state agency and was assigned a local road. Although the club will meet several times a year to pick up trash, we can all make an effort help keep our country clean!

The Piggies are Here!

Look at those wee little piggies! This year we got 3 Tamworth/Ossabaw Island cross piglets. They settled right in when we brought them home and already are enthusiastically slurping goats milk on a daily basis!

When we got them at the end of March they were around 20-25lbs each. They've grown to around 60-70lbs in a month and a half.

It's May 28th, and our best guess is that these guys are approaching 100lbs.

Last year's piggies didn't stay small very long! We expect to have this years trio to market weight easily by September.

Fauquier County 4H Show & Sale May 1st and 2nd, 2011

Luke, Allison, and Erik participated in the 2011 Fauquier County 4H Show & Sale. 4H kids from several clubs raise lambs, pigs, or steers, and compete for the Blue Ribbon in each category. Then there is a sale to auction these competitively raised animals. Potential Buyers are treated to a BBQ dinner hosted by the 4H Show & Sale Committee. Then the fun begins! Animals are auctioned to the highest bidder and the proceeds go to further the 4H'ers projects or to fund a future college education. Buyers are not required to take the animals and may choose to have them re-sold at the next day's commercial auction.
